The club will open in September after it closed for a week following a fire. It originally opened in 1964 with The Beach Boys and The Faces, but now it’s a brand new venue with a completely different look. It has new bar areas and toilets, but it has retained the sprung dance floor. The first headline show will be a headline gig from Sugababes on October 16.

The venue will feature three rooms, each presenting a different genre. One of the rooms will be occupied by BANKS, a collective of two artists who will perform genre-defying alternative pop. Another headliner is Rema, an Afrobeat artist who has attracted the attention of Drake and featured on FKA twigs’ most recent album. This artist will bring her acclaimed live show to Bristol.

The former SWX venue was forced to close due to a fire in July 2021. It closed for a total of nine hundred and thirty-three days, but reopened on 1 September. Since then, the venue has been undergoing a transformation and is now home to many events, including new ones and rearranged events.

The nightclub at SWX Bristol has reopened after being closed for 14 months following a fire. It plans to host a party next Monday after removing legal restrictions. The fire was deliberately started by an arsonist who claimed to be campaigning against covid restrictions in the UK. Several areas of the nightclub were damaged in the fire, and police initially said the fire was deliberate, but later changed this to ‘unknown cause’. Officers believe an accelerant was used. Owner Dominic Madden described the incident as ‘hugely sad’.

The fire was reported to have spread quickly across the club, but at the height of the fire, 10 fire crews were battling the flames. The fire was reported at 8am on Friday, and the venue was closed for three days. The fire had been burning for 27 hours, but a firefighter could not get inside for hours. The blaze had no impact on the neighbouring buildings. In August 2021, Owen Marshall pleaded guilty to arson.
